Minnesota Prison Education Program Coordinator

Jenna coordinates the development of the Office of Undergraduate Education’s Minnesota Prison Education Program, which will begin delivering academic coursework to incarcerated students in fall 2021. She works in collaboration with faculty and staff at the U and other higher education institutions in Minnesota on program implementation, training and support for instructors teaching inside, curriculum development, and degree progress tracking. She partners with the Department of Corrections on advocating for access and institutional support for students inside and also provides direct academic and administrative support to incarcerated students that includes advising and mentoring, cohort building, and co-curricular programming.

Prior to this role, Jenna taught literature and writing courses for six years in the College of Liberal Arts and conducted extensive field work research on literature and performance programs in prisons. Her research has been published in the Humanities journal, the MLA volume Teaching Literature and Writing in Prisons, and Research in Drama Education. She holds a Ph.D. and M.A. in English literature, which she completed at the University of Minnesota with the support of a Doctoral Dissertation Fellowship, and holds a B.A. from the University of Iowa.
